Is it possible to obtain a book from the public library and use Calibre to convert the book to a format that's can be read on the Kindle 3?

Thank you very much in advance for any help.
Kindle books will be available through your local public library using Overdrive within the next few months. Any ebook that your library has available can be borrowed as a Kindle book with no need to convert anything.
