Most "n" routers have a b and g compatibility mode, where they use whatever mode is appropriate for the device connecting.
Sounds about right... Had next to no troubles connecting to my Belkin 'N300' Surf router... apart from typing the password incorrectly a couple of times, which is easy to do on the kindle. Has 'a', 'b', 'g', 'n' - in the specs... not exactly sure what that means but could mean it is compatible with all sorts.
