Ooh, the GRRM, Robert Jordan thing made me think... Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series. I *loved* Wizard's First Rule. Then each succeeding book just turned me off more and more until I didn't want anymore.

Also, David Feintuch. Liked "The Still," hated "The King." The main character was just starting to become fairly human, then he completely reverted into being a gigantic turd.

Or the Rune Master (?) series. Made it through the first book, then halfway through the second I practically flung it across the room away from me because I just got a giant case of the creepies.
