Samsung or LG would be the ones supplying the panel for Apple. Neither has shown the ability to produce said panel yet. 16x9 isnt any cheaper than 4x3 in volume. well they might be slightly since more companies are using 16 x9 but its basically moot.
and as pointed out above 2560 x 1920 wouldnt be a doubling that Apple would need to make apps backwards compatible. JSWolf points out that would be 2048x1536 . Samsung probably could produce that in 4x3 based on that hi res 2560x1600 display.
