I've never fancied an eReader of any kind. Thought they'd all be a poor substitute for a real book.
I was wrong. My Kindle 3 is terrific. I don't like being locked in to Kindle format, but that's easily solved with Calibre, which converts almost anything.
I read older mainly out-of-copyright stuff, most of which is free. Some of it though is pretty poorly put together, but again that's easily fixed with an editor. I tried the open source SIGIL, but it was unstable on my system, so I spent a few dollars on JUTOH which is absolutely terrific, especially if you're British, since it comes from Scotland, and knows about British spellings.
It'll also deal with your Word or other documents - Brilliant all round.
Typically I spend about 20 minutes orr so fixing up a book to my taste which may then take me a day to read.
I doubt it matters very much what you buy, but the Kindle is very easy on the eye and a heck of a good price.
Cheers
Mick
