I've had two more replies from Bookeen. One was the reflash instructions (which unfortunately can't be used as I have to be able to turn the cybook on to reflash the unit) and the second email said the following:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please try to:
- recharge your Cybook;
- reset your Cybook and switch it on;
- unplug the battery, wait for 10 seconds, replug the battery (red wire towards the bottom) and switch it on.

We hope this will help.

Again, useless since I can't "switch it on".

So now I'm just waiting on Bookeen to tell me what to do next
I'm sorry to hear that. Perhaps you might want to take a 'modified' approach. Follow their instructions regarding unplugging the battery, leaving it disconnected for 10 seconds and then re-connecting it. Then try to follow their instructions to the letter. Perhaps that might cause enough of a 'hard' reset for everything to settle down.

But I'd still start the process for getting an RMA number so it can be returned.
