What I love are the public toilets with two doors where one door opens inward, the other outward. Means that you must touch at least one handle. Surely making them both push-to-exit would be more sensible.
I take my liseuse into the toilet, but I do cover it before I wipe & flush. I also put the cover down before I flush because flushing aerosolises the contents of the bowl and I don't like that. But if you're worried about hygene, the kitchen is a much more risky place. There's a lot more nasty stuff in kitchens (more people get sick from it too), especially if you are misfortunate enough to share it with meat eaters.
I do wipe my liseuse down with methanol every week or two when I'm cleaning my camera lenses. Not so much for hygene as for fingerprint removal.
