I voted "I feel like I should keep going in case the series gets better again."

I'm basing my answer on books which I have invested more than 5 or 6 titles into.

Once I find a series I really like the books become auto-buys for me (when funds allow).

I normally have a three bad books limit - if it's a really long running series - before I consider leaving it behind. But only for long running series.
