If a rooted Nook Touch can read Amazon's DRM-wrapped mobi files, then it might well be a better Kindle than the Kindle (which I was using yesterday and find far more annoying than my 950) -- in theory.

Unfortunately, that still leaves the problem of getting Amazon content onto the Touch, since the only reason some of us actually own a Kindle is because we have to interface with the Kindle Store for business and/or personal reasons.

The font and line spacing options out of the box also show that less advanced users who choose the Touch and don't think they require workable pdf support might have reason to prefer it to the 650. Some people aren't comfortable rooting or installing custom firmware, and the PRS's lack of font options is one of its most frustrating limitations for people who just want the thing to be useful to them out of the box.

To the people who complain that pdf support is unnecessary to them: With all due respect, you'll say that until the day that it is necessary: When an author sends you a file, or a library book is only available, or a book you really need to read is only offered, in pdf.

To delphin: Many of us whose job it is to read computer screens all day -- whether editing other's writing, producing music, writing fiction or composing scores -- need to rest our eyes afterward, and that means not looking at another backlit LCD screen when it's time to read. Which means that pdf support is rather important to some of us even though we're aware that a larger-screened tablet would be more flexible and have better real estate.

BTW: The other reason I should own a powerful tablet is because its screen is a much better interface for composing than an UL's keyboard, which is why the original Fairlight and Synclavier, both of which originally cost anywhere from $40,000 to $120,000 fully loaded, used a touch screen with a stylus like that of a $109 DS Lite.
