I see people walking around with shattered screens on their cellphones on a daily basis, and I feel bad for them that they obviously didn't have some kind of insurance to protect themselves. Portable devices have a higher "injury" rate than other electronics, I think.

That's pretty much what I was trying to say: You run a greater risk with some electronics than others. What counts is the cost of the insurance vs. the cost of the device, at that point. Sure, you might never need the EW, but it's a safety measure in case you do. Especially with high-priced electronics where certain fragile parts are specifically left
out of the normal warranty.
