Why not do both?

Perhaps the OP's client is unaware of how easy drm is to remove or the probkems it can bring? In fact maybe it needs demonstrating to them, explain the added cost the drm adds both in license fees and managment and then let them decide if they still want it. The client's decision is usually final but there's nothing wrong with providing them with extra information to make sure they're making an informed decision.

If the op has already gone over this ground with their client then that's fair enough. At least they can't turn around and say, hey our books are been pirated i thought we were paying for drm x to stop that.

My advice in that regard remains. Adobe adept, it appears to be the most widely supported.
