Yesterday the owner of a nearby lunchroom/restaurant came into our store in a panic. They had washed the lamps the night before and were hooking them up again before opening and the fuses kept blowing. My father went with him to see if he could find what was causing the problem and he did.
A normal person would take the glass shade of the lamp and either wash it by hand or in the dishwasher. Then they would dust of the light fitting or clean it with a damp cloth. They didn't. They just took the whole thing off the wall and put it in the dishwasher. And then they were surprised they kept blowing fuses.
My father advised the owner to let the lamps dry out and then replace all the fittings (the part the lamp is screwed into) because the metal inside it rusts quickly. Then the owner got mad that he couldn't get his light back immediately and that my father refused to change all 20 fittings for him (we simply haven't got the time).
