Garnett, David: Lady into Fox, v.1, 13 March 2008.

(1922) A novella, in which a man finds that his wife has turned into a fox (or, to be pedantic, a vixen). Illustrated with wood-engravings by R A Garnett.

This little fable is beautifully-written and capable of a number of interpretations including:
1. The husband went mad and his wife has merely left him; so we have an unreliable narrator.
2. It might be a parable about the impossibility of containing female sexuality within marriage.
3. Or a contrast between the unaffected natural behaviour of animals, as compared to artificial human society.

This is a youthful work by David ‘Bunny’ Garnett, a son of two members of the Bloomsbury group.

Edited to add that this book is now located on the US server.
