While I understand some of the distaste for Windows, I believe some of it is misplaced anger. I am no fan of the constant updates and other nonsense that goes along with Windows. But this ASUS eee Slate is a fabulous fast machine, completely eliminating many of my prior frustrations with Windows. Running OneNote is a great experience and far better than the Journal on the eDGe. It is fast, automatically backs up to the cloud, and is great to take notes in color, easily cutting and pasting from the screen to make useful notebooks. A Win7 netbook is probably a bad experience because it is an under-powered machine. Thats why they are so cheap. Try running Win7 with 4GB of RAM and a nice i5 processor and you wont hate it.
