Actually, the EE does have something of a control, indirectly. I never did find "hibernation" settings for the EE, but the EE appears to hibernate some time after going into standby/sleep. So, set your screen timeout to something high, or use the Power Control widget and tap the second icon to set the EE to never turn off the LCD. That will delay/prevent sleep and therefore hibernation.
