I'd be curious to know what the solution is, assuming they help you with one. As an aside, I have a NYPL card, which is apparently Manhattan-specific. I can't, for example, borrow ebooks from the Brooklyn Public Library, although technically it is part of the New York City Public Library. So even if you don't actually have a NYPL card, you wouldn't be able to actually download any books, despite what Overdrive may tell you.
