Not all DOC files are Word documents. A plain text file can be given the DOC extension. Copy the file to a PC or Mac and try opening it in a plain text editor. If it looks okay, then it is indeed a plain text file.

The ES File Explorer I believe has a built in plain text editor - you can try opening the file with a long tap in ES File Explorer and see what happens.
