Welcome to the forums, anuskaeg
Some people insist on screen protectors, others don't bother (I fall in the latter category). Fingernails and the included stylus are relatively soft and normally shouldn't damage the screens. However, things like sand and metal will, and if your fingers are routinely less than clean (grease, chemicals, dirt, etc.) then a protector will make them easier to clean. A little bit of food grease (chicken wings, french fries, potato chips) won't instantly harm the screens, but you really should wash your hands after eating those before using the eDGe
Usually you put protectors on things like tablets and cellphones because their screen is always exposed, the latter getting scratched up if you carry it in a pocket, and both if you carry them in a bag. For these, if you hate minor scratches, you really do need protectors. However, the eDGe folds up for travel, protecting both screens, so you don't have to worry about those types of scratches.
Here are some past discussions on screen protectors:

Applying them can sometimes be problematic, as you'll read.
Note that all of them are for the larger enTourage eDGe, not the Pocket eDGe. Some of the suppliers mentioned will probably carry the smaller protectors eventually.
