Cool Feeling eDGey lately!

Hello, eDGey people!

I'm new to using EnTourage equipment. I purchased a PE from hsn the day it launched. I received it fairly quickly after that and have been exploring it in stolen moments. So far it seems like a pretty cool gadget. Not a perfect one, but just fine. I have been reading through the forums and have learned some things while walking away more confused about others.

I do have a couple of what seems to be minor problems so far. I searched and could not find threads addressing them. I also contacted customer service and they seem to be overwhelmed and unable to effectively address my problems, so I came here.

My first problem is the trackpad. It seems to malfunction occasionally. Sometimes this is fixed by shutting down and restarting the PE, but sometimes not. Customer service told me that this has been a common complaint and it's a software thing, but they have not really instructed me how to fix it.

My second problem is Docs to Go/Keypad stuff. I asked CS about this and the guy told me to do what I'd already been doing that wasn't working. When I open a document (say, Word) and then want the keypad, I hit the menu button, but I get a set of six buttons at the bottom instead of a keypad. The same happens for excel. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong or if I have to have something setup a certain way.

I do have other questions about some things, but I haven't searched on them yet, so I'll do that and come back if necessary.

First impressions from a newbie, though...

The Pocket eDGe is pretty cool. Great idea. It seems to work well. Average level of user friendly. Sturdy feel, but would be nice if design was sleaker. I've seen others say it was ugly, and while I don't agree with "ugly", I'd have to say there is room for improvement. To me, its purpose outweighs its appearance. It's a tool not a fashion statement. There are some bugs/kinks to work out, but that's the case with just about any new product. It's price could stand some lowering, but it is a new item. Anyone remember when DVD players were $500 each? (the same one you can get now for $50?)

It does do just about everything my mother would need in a computer. If I end up changing my mind later, I'd probably give it to her instead of returning it altogether. But so far I'm inclined to keep it. I LOVE the portability.

Current plans for use: In my job I write business listings with photos. The PE will take adequate photos for it and I can take notes in the journal and organize with Excel (once I get my keyboard) and use the internet to research and write the listings. I have not tried all of this yet, but I will soon. I have been going to school and next semester was planning on continuing, so I will most likely use it for that, as well. I've downloaded books from Gutenberg for my kids, but my voracious reader is getting a Nook for Christmas courtesy of my mother, so it'll mostly be for me to curl up with my youngest to read together.

It has been interesting to read all the posts here. Everyone seems so... oh, I don't know... En eDGe?
