I spoke to a PocketEdge.com tech support person earlier today and, although I purchased the "full-sized" 10.1" LCD/9.1" Reader model from Amazon.com for $496.00, I was told the batteries have to be charged within the unit, itself ... additional batteries can be purchased but must also be placed into the device and charged "internally," although this will still give you a fully-charged "back-up" battery if you are travelling or engaged in a long-distance flight.
The $60-ish cost of a new battery is reasonable, to me at least.
I'm sure if you do a Google search, you may find less expensive ones to purchase.
