I have this problem as well. Fortunately I've only had to remove the battery twice and it takes minutes and some tool like a screwdriver! A third hand would be helpful.

I shone a flashlight inside and the springs are there (maybe they're not strong enough), but it sure doesn't release and gravity is of no help - it requires force to pry it out!
