So basically I just need to be somewhere I can recharge it and inside their network area. Ah wait, do I need my laptop, with Vista to be able to access my account and pay, or can I do that from my edge once the account is set up?
You might find the Wiki article on MiFi helpful: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MiFi

Basically, it's a combination 3g modem and wireless access point. Once it's setup you just log onto it as you would any wireless network.

I did the initial setup on my laptop (Windows 7), although it's all browser based so you might be able to do it on the eDGe. It takes 5-10 minutes and is pretty straight-forward. But once it's set up, you just power it up and log the eDGe on (i.e., you don't need to sign in with a PC every time).
