The reason MobiPocket's prices are higher than other bookstores is for the simple reason that they are primarily a wholesaler of books, and they don't undercut their retailers.

Nobody with any sense buys books directly from the MobiPocket store. You buy them from one of the retailers, where they typical cost about half what they do at Mobi.

Don't compare the prices between the Kindle and MobiPocket.com - compare the prices between the Kindle and, say, Fictionwise, or BooksOnBoard, or any of the other MobiPocket retailers. What do you get if you do that?
