You may want to look at epub. Those files are much, much smaller than pdf and zoom and reflow better on the eDGe. I don't annotate, so I can't say that's any better or worse. Project Gutenberg has mostly epubs, some with images, so you can look at the format. I like it for more modern books and pdf for antique books, where I want it to look exactly like the original book.
