This happened to me with the ES File Explorer. I downloaded and installed the app, then uninstalled it. This then allowed the "built-in" version to resume working (which wasn't actually uninstalled).

I did have the downloaded app and tried installing it, but I got a "could not install app" message. So I can't put in a new app and can't get rid of the system one either.
