Actually, the e-ink side of the device doesn't draw power from the battery when there's a static image on the screen. It only uses battery power when you're changing pages, making annotations or using other functions that result in a refresh or a change in image. The e-ink screen behaves differently from an LCD screen. I explain a few of these behaviors in my post about e-ink technology, which you can find here:
