Yes, call directly. Mistakes do happen and it seems you also got a bum eDGe. Let us know how it turns out. BTW, how do you know the ticket is closed? I have several open, I think.
Do try another eDGe, if offered. I now use it much more than my pc, though I keep it plugged in most of the time. I haven't run out the battery or anything, it's just easier to not worry about it.
