A fantastic idea, i've thought the same thing.
Of course it would be necessary to add some functions to the e-reader side, at now it is totally dependent from the android gui for selecting books.
But the biggest problem for me is that the e-reader side is only a peripheral: running android on the cpu consume a lot of power, if the e-ink could have some logic to change pages on a given file by itself (like dedicated e-readers do) it would be possible to reach a very high battery life.
For example, with the actual device when power is too low, both sides shut off, if the e-ink side was a complete e-reader it could possibily "survive" for a lot of page-turnings after the power to use android os was depleted.
