I agree, interacting with the LCD screen is a bit tricky. Particularly when trying to scroll. Sliding the notification bar down to the bottom of the screen is almost impossible with my finger. I think there are two reasons for this.
First, the eDGe uses a resistive touchscreen rather than a capacitive screen. The resistive screens just aren't as accurate as the capacitive screens. They also require you to apply greater pressure to register. There's a reason why Apple uses capacitive screens and it's not to save money. I'm sure enTourage's reason for using the resistive screen was to keep the price from going over $500.
Second, unlike the Apple products that use a glass screen, the eDGe has a plastic screen with some sort of anti-glare coating. I find that my fingers don't slide very well over the screen. Rather, I get a slide-stick-slide-stick kind of thing. This really messes up the scrolling action and whenever my finger sticks it registers as a button press. I'm considering getting a screen protector for the LCD side in the hope that it would make the surface a bit more "slick". The NuShield DayVue (
