For me it isn't too much sex, it's too much of the same sort of sex described with the florid idiocy of someone who hasn't really experienced it. If the hero or heroine gets a recreational spanking, the author needs tho KNOW what that is like!
Other than that I despise characters who behave in a manner inconsistent with their character makeup and experience. A coward can act heroically, but only after an appropriate reason for doing so is presented.
