Hey everyone!

I'm Tom from California.
Just now starting to shop for an e-reader and I'm looking to learn from the experiences of others before I buy.

It's kind of interesting to me what got me into the market for an e-reader. It all started with dropping my iPhone 4 into the toilet on accident. I don't know whether it was because of the more packed in design of 4 as opposed to my earlier iPhone, or just because the toilet had already been used (#1 lol); but for whatever reason, drying it out with dessicant didn't work work for me. I DID successfully save my earlier edition of the iphone in this way..

Anyway, here I was with a worthless iPhone, looking at the possibility of paying way too much for a replacement, when I actually stopped to think about it.

The thing is, I don't use the phone. I call people I need to call (rarely!), I would receive texts or emails on it, I would read on it (yikes! Not comfortably), and I used some very basic apps: calculator, calendar, 'stickies', unit converters etc.

Long story short, I went the cheap route and opted for the early termination fee, rather than an expensive replacement + an expensive 2 year contract. Got myself a cheapie, no frills, landline and google voice to use it by.

I was doing pretty good, but then I started to miss things. I didn't know what time it was. I was writing appointments on scraps of paper and losing them, I was finding myself waiting in offices for appointments and wishing I had an old fashioned book. So it seemed I needed a 'device' after all, but nothing with a monthly payment, and certainly nothing with more expensive tech than I needed. As I looked around I saw the nook- line and liked it- but I wanted some simple apps, and had fallen in love with e-ink, so nook color just wouldn't do. I'm leaning toward the 'all new' nook, but not without apps, so I'll be watching for how 'rooting' progresses with that one.

BUT (!) Maybe there is another product I don't know about? Anybody have a product they would recommend, given my description?

I'm off to read some other threads here, this conversation has likely been done several times I'll bet.. Thanks!
