The 1st Gen Nook has web browser, a few games, no email app (you have to go through the web). With that said, I never used my 1st gen Nook for those things because it is so slow it is frustrating. You have to do those things by using the color touchscreen and wait for the eink screen to refresh and catch up, it's complicated, not worth it, in my opinion. I don't know if they still have those on display, but you can try it in the store if you want. It does not come anywhere near close as the experience you get from the NC. The only thing I used the 1st gen nook was for reading and if that is what you want, then might as well get the new Simple Touch. The Simple Touch has no web browser, email, apps, nothing, just strictly reading. If you want the best web, email, apps experience then keep the NC, where you can also read books.
