I think the iPad or any other media tablet is the worst option to use it as an eReader. You can't use it outside, you can't even use it on a bright day. Instead you get a reflective LCD with an eye hurting backlight.

But I also agree that the PRS650 display is too small for a magazine. Take a look at the link in my signature to get an idea how it might look like. I read science articles on it and use the column mode for it. However, with images stretched across two or three columns it doesn't work that great.

I don't know if there's a huge difference with the 950, the 950 is not wider, just taller, so landscape mode might be better but maybe still not large enough.

So either you are ok with the column mode, or you search for a much larger eInk reader.

And no, reading on a LCD, regardless how good they are (I own a tablet PC with industries best LCD (Boe Hydis AFFS+ panel) and still bought an eReader to read comfortably)
