I would say it's the same with screenwriting. I was working on a couple of projects a while back, and I was in Florida at the time and had to fly back to Nashville to meet with the guy I was doing the work for. My mom, who is easily impressed, had to tell everyone who knew us that I was flying out to work on a film project. Naturally, they ALL had an idea (usually several) for a movie.

Of course, once they found out I was being brought in on a work-for-hire basis, they lost interest. "What? You mean you don't get credit??" Uh, no, I get paid. Bragging rights don't pay the bills.
