I called and was told they needed the security code on my credit card; this was a crock, because the card has been on file with them and the order process never asked for it to be reentered. Before I gave it to them, I asked them to verify that the order would be considered as eligible for the now-expired promo offer, and got switched back to customer service. While I was on the line with CS, the order magically went through, without me giving the security code that supposedly was needed.
I suspect that it IS a weekend thing--though how dumb is that?--and if I'd just waited longer, the order would have gone through today without my doing anything. But how annoying!
