I think the petroleum ethers are marketed in scrapbooking stores for lifting stickers. It's nasty stuff, though, from a health standpoint, so I always try rubbing alcohol first, which takes 2-3 times as long but gets most of the same stuff up. Only use the really strong stuff on paper though, the extra water will wrinkle the paper otherwise.
