My parents believed in education. Almost any education. If there was something I expressed interest in learning, they immediately offered to provide professional lessons. Horseback riding, fencing, guitar, drums, archery, tennis, etc., etc., my childhood weekends were spent in taking lessons of one kind or another. My folks never refused me ANY lessons... except bagpipes. No matter how much I begged and pleaded, they absolutely refused to let me take bagpipe lessons!

One of the first things I did after leaving home was learn to play the pipes. Or at least, learn how they should be played...
