Axim mp3 problem

I've been again toying with the Axim x30 that is collecting dust near my desk at work. I have found a curious bug and I wonder if any Mobilereaders can duplicate it for me. Here's the chain of events:
  1. Play an mp3, wma, etc. from an SD card on any player.
  2. Pause the play
  3. Turn off the Axim
  4. Turn it back on
  5. Press play on the player
At this point the Axim either locks up or plays a second or two of the paused track (cached info presumably) and then skips to the next. Which action occurs depends on the player (and partially on the ROM: I updated the ROM to A05, the most recent). I find this a most depressing lapse in the ability of the device. On my T|E I listen to audiobooks all the time. I often need to pause and turn off the device to speak to someone or to tend to something that requires direct attention. I want to be able to return to exactly where I was, and quickly. My Palm has no problem with this at all, other than a small stutter as it catches back up to the file on the card. I cannot for the life of me get the Axim to perform this same function. I would be indebted to you kind folks if you could help me decipher this. Can you test your devices and see if you can repeat the problem? I would be interested if any other PPC's exhibit this, which might indicate an OS problem rather than a device specific one.

(There is also a thread on the same subject at Aximsite, but unfortunately, I have not had much in the way of helpful response.)
