If an indie author wants me to buy his/her eBook, the it had better be published someplace other then Amazon and Smashwords and in ePub.

I say Smashwords, because I don't buy from there because I hate their meatgrinder.

Amazon also includes public domain eBooks in their numbers and in fact, multiple copies too. So the because of this, Amazon's numbers do get inflated even more so.
