Hi, I was searching Google to see where my book was mentioned on the net and stumbled on this thread. I have the answer to your question, at least with regards to my book.

When I listed my book on Amazon, they would not let let me list it for free (this is still true). I also put my book on Smashwords (and elsewhere), and everyone else let me list it for free.This was back in November and it has been 99 cents (lowest possible price) until early May on Amazon and free everywhere else. In early May I received an email from Amazon saying:

Dear Publisher,

We wanted to let you know that we have matched a free promotion on another sales channel for the following ASIN(s):B004CFAP22
Shortly after that it showed up for free. I assume that is true for the rest of the authors listed here.
