I'm sorry for your loss. I had my first K3 stolen in December and I felt bereft. But I had backed up everything, including, importantly, non-Amazon material, on my computer. When I got a new Kindle I then experienced some problems because I got one of the dodgy unlighted covers. But Kindle CS were very helpful. Now I have a lighted cover and everything works well.
I do hope you resolve your problem soon so you aren't left without your reader. Remember to ask Kindle CS rather than general Amazon CS for help. They might do an exchange for you.
