If they make a general purpose device capable of reading ebooks, I don't think it will a big deal. Most people here are after the tech. My interest in ereaders isn't simply because it is a device that just reads ebooks, but because they're a device that can read ebooks and do it with a good display. If there were mirasol or eink screens on smartphones, or tablets, you'd not be sacrificing like you have to now.
