Device: Kindles - Keyboard, Fire, 2-US, iPhone, iPAD
My original Kindle (a K2-US) failed at about 16 months but it wasn't the battery. The screen went bad. It didn't even occur to me to call Amazon to replace it because it was covered under my American Express extended warranty. They refunded my purchase price which was nice because the price of the Kindles had dropped dramatically by then.

The next Kindle I bought in July 2010 (a refurb K2-US) is still going strong and I use it as my back-up Kindle ... mostly around water etc. I take it out by the pool where the kids are splashing around and into the bathtub. It needs to be charged up about every other week.

My K3, bought last year at release shows no degradation at all.

The prices are so low now that I really don't worry so much about longevity. I figure I'll be wanting a new device well before it stops working.
