I remember seeing a pie chart of what it costs Amazon to deliver a book to you via Whispernet over 3G. The piece AT&T got for delivery was OVER HALF of the total price of the book. I really think that 3G is a losing proposition for B&N (and probably for Amazon as well). Cell phone companies are extremely greedy, and I think it's only a matter of time before you're going to see a "3G surcharge" to download a book over 3G.
