Calibre crashing entire user session

Hi, I've been using calibre for quite a while and it's of absolute importance for my research work (I'm a student).

Recently, however, calibre have been giving me the creeps because it crashes my entire user session. It happens randomly, with no recognizable pattern leading to that. There I am happily using calibre and, all of the sudden, the screen goes black on to tty and then gdm kicks for me to log in (I'm completely kicked out of my session).

I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 and calibre 0.8.3.

Any ideas on how to solve this?

Note: I have tried to start calibre in debug mode, but when it crashed, it left no trace behind.
addendum: I have tried some workaround that I found on google, but to no avail. This workaround consisted in selecting on ccsm > Utilty > Workarounds the workaround for qt windows
