This is exactly what I do as well for my collections, except I use a double underscore (__) for genres then single underscore in front of series.
So when I sort by title I get the following on the first page of my home screen:
__Classics
__Fantasy
__Mystery & Thriller
__Science Fiction
_Dark Tower
_Dune
_Sword of Truth
etc
Doing it this way makes it extremely easy to find a particular title I want, or I can type a letter and hit enter to jump directly to titles starting with that letter.
