Yes you should return it. You should have taken the time to find the PDF owner's manual and read up on how to get books onto the reader rather than or in addition to people's opinion of the unit itself. Excuse me for saying but it's a no brainer that you'd have to have your own computer in order to get books onto the unit. The thing doesn't have wi-fi so it can't do it on it's own. It needs a computer and software to do so unless all you want are older free books.
If you don't have a computer or don't want to carry one with you - buy a Kindle and be on your merry way. Clearly the Sony isn't for you.
