Doesn't surprise me. The head of IBM once said only 5 machines could run the world (back when they were the 30 ton models), before the Wright Bros. flight heavier than air flight was avowed impossible and after their flight someone worked out that a plane with more than one passenger would never get off the ground. When Robert Goddard had his rocket projects Time magazine blasted him for not knowing high school physics (they printed a retraction and apology when we landed on the moon). People always have trouble seeing the future.
