Every consumer fridge I've hooked an ammeter to over the past 20 years or so (assuming no wiring fault) read zero when the compressor and light were off. The transformer in the compressor is isolated by a mechanical relay when off, and the relays are controlled by a mechanical (presumably bimetallic) thermostat.
I'm sure there are exceptions in fridge designs that do leak, but no transformer will leak power if it's disconnected from the mains by the empty space of a mechanical switch in the off position, right?
For your #3, would that be inductive loss? Just a guess.
I love electrical stuff and I love my Kill-A-Watt meter, but this would be a discussion for another forum!
