I understand your "1, 2, 3...many" point, but for me, that point is over two weeks. The less I have to remember to do each week, the happier I am.
I'd prefer my Kindle lasted even longer, but it is at least past my 'long enough' point if I keep wifi off most of the time.

My cell phone just annoys me regularly, and I'm on my second battery.
